Team Abilities Hosts Free Back-To-School Event for Special Needs

SPRING, TX — As families across the country prepare for a new school year, millions of students with disabilities will return to classrooms and school communities. Federal education data show that roughly 7.5 million children and students ages 3–21 are served under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, representing about 15 percent of public school enrollment.

To help make the back-to-school transition a little easier for local families, TEAM Abilities and Emma’s Kind Kloset will host a free back-to-school shopping event created especially for the IDD and special needs community.

ADMISSION Free; no RSVP required

Guests may shop for clothing, shoes and accessories at no cost. Complimentary back-to-school haircuts, snacks, water and shopping bags will also be provided. Families are invited to come as they are, browse at their own pace and enjoy a welcoming community experience.

“Back-to-school can be both an exciting time and a nerve-wracking time for families. We just want to do our part in helping with some of the items that we know parents will need and their children will appreciate. Every child deserves to begin the school year feeling confident, prepared and celebrated, and we’re honored to help make that happen,” said Rachel Jelks, Founder and CEO of TEAM Abilities.

The event is also inspired by the mission of Emma’s Kind Kloset and the service platform of six-year-old pageant titleholder Emma Jean Marie Jelks.

“Shine Bright is my platform as Miss Lone Star Ultimate USA Jr. Princess, and I want to do what I can to help others shine bright as they start school this year,” said Emma Jean Marie Jelks, age 6.

Emma’s Kind Kloset was created around the belief that 'kindness never goes out of style.' Through the event, Emma and the TEAM Abilities community hope to help students begin the school year feeling supported, confident and excited.
