Montgomery County Deputies Arrest Suspect in $15,000 Sporting Goods Store Theft Case

THE WOODLANDS, TX -- The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office arrested Dillon Smith on August 1, 2026, in connection with a series of high value thefts at sporting goods stores in the Woodlands area. Between June 26 and July 2, Smith targeted multiple Dick's Sporting Goods and Academy Sports stores in Montgomery and Harris counties, stealing baseball bats and gloves valued at nearly $15,000.

Smith was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Montgomery County Jail on a felony organized retail theft warrant, along with outstanding Harris County theft and evading on foot warrants.

The investigation remains active, and additional charges may be filed.
