Montgomery County Library System to celebrate Genealogy and Preservation Day Aug. 19

THE WOODLANDS, TX – The Genealogy and Preservation Center in the central branch of the Montgomery County Library System is celebrating its golden anniversary this month. For five full decades, the space has been filled with research, laughter, community, and history, and now it is inviting the public to come help celebrate.

On Wednesday, August 19, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., celebrate fifty years of preserving Montgomery County’s rich history. Members of the community and visitors alike are encouraged to stop by to tour the center, meet the team, and see how you can uncover and preserve your own family history. Come enjoy cake, coffee, and a walk through the center’s history while honoring the past and looking forward to the future.

Recognizing these five decades of dedicated public service, Montgomery County Judge Mark Keough and the County Commissioners issued an official proclamation declaring August 19, 2026, as “Genealogy & Preservation Center Day.” The proclamation encourages community members to visit the Center, explore its specialized services, and honor the Center’s ongoing role in preserving local history.
