Smart Teen Series
THE WOODLANDS, TX -- The Woodlands Township invites teens and parents to learn, connect and be prepared through the SMART (Safe, Mindful, Aware, Resilient Teens) Teen Series, a free four-part educational program created to help teens navigate today’s challenges with confidence and resilience. Each session will explore timely topics, offer valuable insights and create a welcoming space for learning, conversation and connection. The series, coordinated by The Woodlands Township, will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month at the Kevin Brady Library, 2250 Buckthorne Place, The Woodlands, Texas 77380. No registration is required, and there is no charge to attend.
Bring your questions, gain practical tools and connect with trusted community experts who understand the issues teens and families face today. From public safety and online safety to mental wellness and healthy relationships, each interactive session will provide real-world strategies, open discussion and an opportunity to ask questions in a supportive environment. Attend one session or join all four and make SMART choices for a stronger, safer future.
The series begins September 2 with “Hidden Dangers: Prescription Drugs and Substance Awareness.” Presenters from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and Conroe Independent School District Police will discuss current drug trends affecting teens, prescription medications, substance awareness, vaping myths and facts, warning signs and available resources.
On October 7, the series will focus on “Social Media and Online Predators.” Representatives from the FBI and Montgomery County Precinct 3 Constable’s Office will address online grooming tactics, digital exploitation and fraud, gaming and chat safety, and ways teens can protect their personal information.
The November 4 session, “Mental Health Matters,” will feature Laura Aguirre, MA, LPC-S, with Begin Again Counseling and Consulting, PLLC and representatives from Mosaics of Mercy Outreach. Participants will learn how to recognize signs of emotional distress, understand the difference between normal stress and situations that may require additional support, identify resources and learn how to ask for help. The session also will provide guidance on supporting someone in crisis, including what to do and what to avoid when someone is struggling.
The series concludes on December 2 with “Healthy Relationships: Red Flags and Boundaries,” presented by Linda Quiroz of the Montgomery County Women’s Center. The session will explore controlling behaviors, healthy boundaries, consent and respect, communication skills and ways to support a friend who may be experiencing an unhealthy relationship.
The SMART Teen Series provides teens and parents with an opportunity to learn from trusted community professionals, ask questions and gain information that can be put into practice immediately. Whether attending one session or all four, participants will gain tools to help navigate today’s challenges with greater awareness, confidence and resilience.
