Flexible courses allow more Lone Star College System students to earn credentials throughout the year

HOUSTON, TX -- Students at Lone Star College System don’t have to follow the traditional 16-week semester schedule. With the Next Start Course Schedule, high-quality, low-cost academic transfer and career training education programs are available year-round.

“Next Start sessions provide flexibility to accommodate any schedule,” said Seelpa Keshvala, Ph.D., LSCS executive vice chancellor, Academics. “Online, in-person and hybrid courses are available days, nights and weekends throughout the year, expanding education opportunities for busy students.”

Many LSCS students work while in school, are raising children, have transportation limitations or simply want to obtain their credentials at an accelerated pace. While the fall semester kicked off Aug. 24, upcoming sessions ranging from eight to 14 weeks long will start in September, October and November.

“My teachers really want their students to do well, and that support has helped me stay motivated when things get hard,” said Ryan Lopez, LSC-CyFair student. “There have been times when it was hard to balance school, work and my personal life, but knowing that my teachers are friendly and willing to help makes a big difference. I've also met classmates who have the same goals and dreams as I do. Being around people who are working toward something bigger makes me want to get better.”
