ROAD TRIP: Explore a Texas state historic site for Labor Day Weekend

THE WOODLANDS, TX – Within easy driving distance from The Woodlands, you and the family can make the most of the three-day weekend with a Texas history adventure. From fun festivals and living-history programs to history-inspired cocktails and basket weaving, Texas state historic sites offer memorable ways to fill a day, or build an entire Labor Day itinerary. IKE’s History Fest
September 4 - 5, 10:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., Denison
Step into Texas history at Ike’s History Fest, where families can enjoy hands-on activities, interactive displays and stories from historic sites, museums and nature organizations across the state. Explore President Eisenhower’s Birthplace and make a day of history, discovery and fun for all ages. Admission is $3 per person; children 5 and under are free.

A Weekend With an Author
September 4 - 5, Fredericksburg
Spend a special weekend with acclaimed WWII author and historian Jon Parshall at the National Museum of the Pacific War. Meet Parshall and have books signed Friday afternoon and throughout the weekend; then enjoy period-inspired cocktails and stories from World War II during Mixing Up History on Friday evening, or experience a powerful Peleliu battle reenactment, WWII equipment demonstrations and Parshall’s guest lecture on Saturday. From a classic Mai Tai to the roar of an M2 Flamethrower, each program offers a memorable new way to connect with Pacific War history.

Printing a Revolution
September 5 - 7, San Felipe
Explore how the printed word helped spark revolution during a three-day program at San Felipe de Austin State Historic Site. Through daily demonstrations, discover the connections between America’s 250th anniversary and the Texas Revolution. From Paul Revere’s Boston Massacre engraving and the Travis Letter to Stephen F. Austin’s colonization-law booklet and the Texas Declaration of Independence, each day spotlights a different historic document and the powerful ideas it carried.

History in Play
September 4 - 5, 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., La Grange
Put your shopping skills to the test during September’s History in Play: Grocery Games. Families can explore 19th-century commerce and general stores as they hunt for goods and gather the right ingredients to complete a recipe in the Outdoor Interactive Exhibit Space. The program is included with Kreische Brewery site admission, and annual membership offers free family admission to all programs.
