MAGNOLIA, TX -- Montgomery County Memorial Library System (MCMLS) is excited to announce the grand opening of the Innovation Space at the Malcolm Purvis Library, part of the Innovate@MCMLS systemwide initiative.

The Grand Opening event takes place on Monday, Nov. 9, 3–4 p.m. at the Malcolm Purvis Library, 510 Melton St., Magnolia.

“Innovate@MCMLS” is a systemwide initiative that supports strategic innovation – one of the Library System's organizational priorities – and is aligned with the library's vision to be a leading resource for information, education, culture, and innovation. The initiative's first library location was Kevin Brady Library. It opened in February 2026.

The Malcolm Purvis Library will become the second MCMLS location to open an Innovation Space. Earlier this year, the Malcolm Purvis Library team surveyed the Magnolia community to help guide the Innovation Space's equipment and resource selections. Feedback showed strong interest in hands-on creative technology, STEM learning, and access to tools people may not otherwise have.

The expansion of Innovate@MCMLS to the library in Magnolia is made possible through the support of the Magnolia Economic Development Corporation (MEDC). Through this collaboration, the Malcolm Purvis Library will offer a welcoming space to explore new skills and better serve the community. Together, both organizations are helping to ensure everyone has access to the tools they need to learn, create, and thrive. The new space will feature 3D printers, a large-format cutting machine, and a digital embroidery machine, along with an interactive touch wall, circulating STEM kits, and materials for robotics, coding, electronics, engineering, and hands-on science activities. Designed for children, teens and adults, these resources will support exploration, skill building and creative projects.

“This partnership expands access to hands-on tools and creative technologies," noted Robert Franklin, Chairman of the MEDC Board of Directors. "The Magnolia Economic Development Corporation hopes to open the door for residents of all ages to explore new ideas, build new skills, and discover pathways that could grow into future careers or business ventures.”

“We are happy to welcome Innovate@MCMLS to the Magnolia Community,” said Dr. Janna Hoglund, MCMLS Executive Director. “The new Innovation Space will give Magnolia residents a place to explore, collaborate and create. We are thankful to the Magnolia Economic Development Corporation and the City of Magnolia for their partnership and investment in this exciting community resource.”

Join us for a special celebration of innovation and creativity. The Grand Opening event will include tours and demonstrations, welcome remarks, a ribbon cutting and free 3D printing tickets, while supplies last.

Beginning Tuesday, Nov. 10, customers can attend equipment-specific orientations to learn how to safely and confidently operate the Innovation Space's 3D printers, Cricut, and embroidery machines. An orientation is required before customers may reserve and use the corresponding equipment. Multiple sessions will be offered throughout November, including eleven during the first two weeks following the Grand Opening event.

After completing orientation, customers may make an advance equipment reservation by calling the Innovation Space desk at (936) 538-8329. Use of the Cricut and embroidery machines is free. Certain fees apply to 3D printing. Orientation dates, classes and future Innovation Space programs will be available on the MCMLS Events Calendar at www.countylibrary.org/calendar.php.

“Innovation is what keeps us moving forward. With the generosity of the MEDC, we are excited to bring new technology to Magnolia,” said Kallie Yoars, Malcolm Purvis Library Manager. “The equipment and kits purchased will provide access to resources people might not find elsewhere, improve employable skills in community members, and educate the next generation in STEM. That is what this new initiative is all about.”

MCMLS also thanks Magnolia Library Friends and I-SOLIDS Digital Manufacturing for their support of the Grand Opening event.
