Montgomery County Deputy Talks Man Away From Fifth-Floor Parking Garage Ledge, Saves Life
THE WOODLANDS, TX -- Sometimes, the most powerful tool a law enforcement officer carries isn’t on their duty belt. Sometimes, it’s the ability to listen.
On October 3, 2026, at approximately 3:15 p.m., Montgomery County Precinct 1 Constable’s Office Deputy J. Folkes responded to the 1500 block of Lake Robbins Drive after reports of a man sitting on the outside ledge of a fifth-floor parking garage.
With a life hanging in the balance, Deputy Folkes, a member of the agency’s Crisis Intervention Team, relied on her specialized training, compassion, and patience to connect with the individual.
Rather than escalating an already dangerous situation, Deputy Folkes engaged the man in conversation, established trust, and built a personal connection. Her efforts ultimately convinced the individual to step away from the ledge and return to safety.
Deputy Folkes then transported the man to a local hospital, where he began receiving immediate mental health assistance. No dramatic rescue. No use of force. Just a deputy, a conversation, and a life worth saving.
Constable Philip Cash commended Deputy Folkes for her exceptional actions and expressed his appreciation to the responding agencies whose assistance contributed to the successful outcome.
This incident is a powerful reminder of the critical work performed every day by the Montgomery County Precinct 1 Mental Health Division and Crisis Intervention Team. These specially trained deputies respond throughout Montgomery County, helping individuals and families navigate some of life’s most difficult moments. Because sometimes, saving a life starts with simply being willing to listen.
