Lone Star College-University Park presents the gothic horror “Frankenstein”
HOUSTON, TX -- Lone Star College-University Park Drama Department kicks off its fall production season with Mary Shelley's “Frankenstein” adapted by Nick Dear. The production will run for two consecutive weekends from Oct. 23-25 and Oct. 29-Nov. 1, in the Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) Building’s Main Stage Theater, 930 University Park Campus Dr., Houston, TX 77070.
“This new adaption stays true to the source material and explores modern ideas of identity and responsibility,” said Will Grayson, chair of performing arts at LSC-University Park. “In this time of fast-changing technology and scientific discovery we find this story as relevant as when it was first published. Working on this show during October and Halloween season has been such a blast and we can't wait to share it with our students and community."
Similar to the horror novel “Frankenstein” by Mary Shelley, the stage adaptation by Nick Dear retells the story from the point of view of Victor Frankenstein’s creation, known as the creature. Audiences will witness the creature’s newfound life as he experiences cruelty, prejudices and fear while slowly learning the ways of the world.
The production will feature an ensemble of LSC-University Park students, former students and community members. With Grayson’s direction, the production offers a captivating theater experience that immerses audience members in the emotionally rich and eerie tale of Frankenstein.
The show is open to the public and contains mature themes. To support student involvement and access to the arts, all students—regardless of age, school, or institution—can attend for $1 with a valid student ID. General Admission is $10.
