SPRING, TX -- North Houston’s City Place will glow this fall as the globally celebrated Water Lantern Festival returns to the Houston area for a three-day weekend event. Scheduled for November 20, 21, and 22, 2026, the family-friendly gathering invites guests to add messages of hope, love, remembrance, and intention to floating lanterns before releasing them onto the City Place Park waterfront at sunset.

Festival Experience Brings Food, Live Music, and Eco-Friendly Lantern Launch to City Place Park

Gates open daily at 2:30 p.m., giving attendees time to explore the festival grounds, enjoy local food vendors, and participate in lawn games, a scavenger hunt, and Lantern Stories, a dedicated space where guests can share personal reflections and honor loved ones through their lanterns. At 5 p.m., participants may decorate their floating lanterns before the evening launch. From 5:30 to 6 p.m., the community will release the illuminated lanterns onto the water, creating a striking display before the event concludes at 6:30 p.m.

The Houston-area event is part of the Water Lantern Festival’s 2026 Radiant Tour, an expanded experience that builds on the festival’s themes of joy, togetherness, and personal reflection. Designed to make the evening more intentional and immersive, the tour invites guests to take part in guided moments and shared experiences that extend the meaning of the lantern release.

“With the Radiant Tour, we wanted to create something that goes beyond a single evening,” said Nate Sorensen, Director of Events. “It’s about giving guests space to slow down, reflect, and truly connect with themselves and the people around them. At its core, we hope every person leaves feeling seen, valued, and reminded that they are radiant – and that even a small moment of intention can create a ripple that lasts long after the lanterns fade.”

“Spring has become one of our favorite stops on the Water Lantern Festival tour. There’s an energy at City Place that’s hard to replicate,” said Water Lantern Festival marketing manager Tess Rowser. “The atmosphere and the people create a setting that feels completely unique. Each visit, we’re reminded why this event and this community are so special to our team.”

Environmental responsibility is also built into the event experience. The lanterns are made with biodegradable rice paper and natural wood bases, and a dedicated retrieval and cleanup crew collects lanterns and materials at the end of each evening to help preserve the natural beauty of the surrounding area.

Tickets include festival admission, a floating lantern kit, an LED candle, markers, and full entry to the launch experience. VIP passes and multi-person packages are also available, and children under eight receive free admission.

Advance ticket registration is strongly encouraged because high demand is expected, and events frequently sell out. For event details, daily schedules, and ticket purchases, visit Water Lantern Festival Houston.
