About Us

Assistance League® of Montgomery County is a non-profit organization of volunteers dedicated to serving the community  through its nine philanthropic programs.

Operation School Bell® is the largest program and this year (2010-11) has provided new school clothes and shoes for more than 4000 Montgomery County children!

Another program that benefits young children is Always AskTM, a poison information program that utilizes storytelling and puppetry to convey its positive message. The Tender Loving Care Dolls Program provides handmade soft fabric dolls to county agencies that counsel children of abuse. The dolls have also recently been donated to agencies working with senior citizens in fragile health. The Fans and Blankets for Friends Program helps Montgomery County seniors stay cool in the summer and warm in the winter.  Assault Survivor Kits® are provided to adult victims of abuse or assault.

Babies born in Montgomery County Hospitals receive a Passport to Good HealthTM, a book used to record development and immunization records. Each year, ALMC awards six $4000 scholarships to local high school students to assist them in earning a degree in the social sciences from a 4-year university. The Pass-it-on Program donates items from the Thrift Shop to various county agencies that will in-turn donate them to people in need.

Finally, Community Outreach is an umbrella program that allows Assistance League to meet a wide range of community needs on a one-time or short-term basis that could not otherwise be met through one of the other philanthropic programs.

About 80% of the money needed to support the philanthropic programs is generated through sales at the ALMC Thrift Shop, located in the heart of downtown Conroe.  The Thrift Shop, which is staffed solely by the organization's 200 member volunteers, has recently been enlarged and is now accepting furniture items on consignment.

As Montgomery County continues to grow, so grow the needs of many individuals. In order to meet the challenges of the future, the Assistance League Thrift Shop has expanded its services to include style shows that highlight some of the lovely fashions and jewelry that are available in the shop and participation in community fairs.
