Rocking Carousel Horse
I walked in a gift shop in Conroe years ago looking for a birthday present for my wife, I think the shop was 'The Carousel' on West Davis, this horse was placed in the front of the store. I was intriiqued with it, since we had just moved into a house with a large bay window in the living room, and thought this horse would look really good there. I spoke with the son of the owner, and said it was not for sale, but he then called his mother, who said she would sell it. He told me she had ordered it from a man in California who would glue blocks of wood togther to form a giant block, and rough out the shape with a chainsaw. He would then hand carve the entire horse, and paint it. It is solid wood (excepting the brass poles), and very heavy. It does have a scratch on the right side of the saddle. The glass eyes actually have an iris (see close up shot of of face).
Now we are moving again, and downsizing. I'm a little disappointed she wants to sell it, but it is a big peice of decor.
It measures 60" long x 24" wide x 66" high. The saddle is 39" from the floor.
