Job Description

The Woodlands Children’s Museum is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join our education team within Wonderseum, our private, Reggio Emilia-inspired Pre-K program. This is a permanent, 10-month position that offers a consistent 10 month schedule, with summers off. Performance is reviewed through annual evaluations, with invitations to return extended each year.
Wonderseum is a unique museum early childhood program designed for students ages 4 and 5. We offer two classes (one two-day and one three-day), each maintaining an approximate ratio of 12 students to 2 teachers. We focus on curiosity, imagination, and individual learning styles, fostering a classroom flow centered on exploration and collaboration. We embrace the philosophy of the 'Third Teacher' recognizing parents as the first, teachers as the second, and the environment as the third.
Responsibilities & Expectations
• Co-Teaching: Support and mirror the Lead Teacher as co- researchers & partners alongside the students.
• Environment: Assist in maintaining a purposeful, safe, and inviting environment that encourages children to deepen their understanding through observation and inquiry.
• Documentation: Understand, implement, and value pedagogical documentation.
• Daily Operations: Prep materials, lead weekly movement classes, accompany students to the restroom, Clean, sanitize, and replenish supplies as needed within the classroom to maintain a safe, inviting environment. Chaperone activities inside and outside the museum.
• Initiative: Anticipate the lead teacher's plan and take initiative once a plan is communicated without needing frequent reminders or redirection.

Skills Required

Experience: 5+ years of assistant teaching experience in a Reggio Emilia or Montessori setting preferred.
Skills: Familiarity with process art applications and experienced in building trust with children through play, active listening and conversation.
Enrichment Leadership: Responsible for preparing curriculum and facilitating a once-weekly movement session tailored for both our 3-day and 2-day class schedules..
Environment: Must be comfortable working in a diverse and secular school

Compensation:

$15 per hour
