THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- On Thursday, May 1, the nation will observe The National Day of Prayer, an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May. The event invites people of all faiths to pray for the nation.

It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. In 1988, an amendment was signed into law by President Ronald Reagan to permanently set the day as the first Thursday of every May. Each year, the president signs a proclamation, encouraging all Americans to pray on this day.

Locally, Fellowship of The Woodlands will be hosting a National Day of Prayer Service
from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
