MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas -- In an effort to protect some of our most vulnerable citizens, The Friendship Center is working in conjunction with the local health department to offer H1N1 shots to seniors over age 60 in the Montgomery County community.

“I fear that seniors have been misled regarding their danger from this flu,” said Nancy Harrington, executive director of The Friendship Center. “We believe that their often fragile health makes them at higher risk for more serious illness or death.”

The shots are free of charge and any senior over age 60 is invited to come to one of the centers to ensure their protection from the H1N1 virus.

The health department will visit all six of The Friendship Center’s locations beginning with the Willis location at 600 Gerald Street at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 20.

The health department will visit seniors in Montgomery and The Woodlands on Monday, Jan. 25. Shots will be offered beginning at 10 a.m. in The Woodlands at the South Montgomery County Community Center, 2253 Lake Robbins Road. In Montgomery, shots will be given beginning at 11 a.m. at the community center at 102 Liberty Street.

Seniors in Conroe can obtain their shots beginning at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 21, at 1202 Callahan Avenue, near Candy Cane Park. Seniors in New Caney can also receive the vaccinations beginning at 10 a.m. at The Friendship Center at Sallas Park on McClesky Road in New Caney.

The vaccination will be offered in Magnolia at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 27, at The Friendship Center on 31355 Friendship Drive.
