This Ground Hog's Day, February 2, 2010, Punxsutawney Phil emerged from his hole and saw his shadow. His official forecast calls for six more weeks of winter.

A large crowd gathered in Punxsutawney, Pa., on Gobbler's Knob, at dawn to hear the announcement of Phil's forecast.

Ground Hog's Day is held annually on February 2. According to folklore, if a groundhog comes out of its burrow and fails to see its shadow, it will leave the burrow, signifying that winter will soon end. If the groundhog sees its shadow, it will retreat into its burrow, and winter will continue for six more weeks.
