THE WOODLANDS, TX – We’re on the countdown this week to the annual celebration of moms everywhere. Contrary to popular belief, Mother’s Day wasn’t invented by the greeting card companies. In fact, its origins stretch back to 1868, when a woman named Anna Jarvis organized a committee to establish a ‘Mother’s Friendship Day’ to reunite families that had been divided during the Civil War. Her daughter, Ann Jarvis, wanted to expand these into an annual memorial for mothers. Unfortunately, Anna died in 1905 before the annual celebration was established. Ann worked feverishly to carry on her mother’s works, and the first official Mother's Day was celebrated through a service of worship at St. Andrew’s Methodist Church in Grafton, West Virginia, on May 10, 1908.

Today, the celebration of mothers has become a day filled with pampering, dining, fun, and love. And it’s popular; it’s estimated that 84 percent of Americans celebrate the holiday. As a result, many last-minute plans are foiled. Luckily for you, Woodlands Online has a solution.
