THE WOODLANDS, Texas - On Thursday, January 6, 2011, shortly after noon, an off duty police officer apprehended a suspect who robbed Donoho's Jewellers of an expensive watch with a BB gun.

The suspect, Donovan L. Vanderwesthuizen, 21, of Katy, asked a female employee to look at a Breitling men's watch worth $41,700. Once he had possession of the watch he handed the employee a hand written note that said he had a gun.

Vanderwesthuizen exited the store and began running towards Sweet Tomatoes. Dep. Trey Weatherford, who was working off duty security for Donoho's, gave chase. Dep. Weatherford, a multi-year/multi gold medal winner in various events at the Texas Police Olympics, caught the suspect at his vehicle near Sweet Tomatoes.

Vanderwesthuizen was taken into custody and found to have a realistic BB gun pistol and the stolen watch in his possession. He was arrested for Aggravated Robbery.
