Highlanders Defeat Kingwood, Clinch District title

The Woodlands High School boys’ basketball team clinched the District 14-5A championship on Tuesday with a 61-57 victory at Kingwood.

The victory keeps the No. 21 state-ranked Highlanders (27-3, 10-0) unbeaten in league play.

The Highlanders rallied from an early 18-15 deficit to grab a 29-26 lead at halftime. The Woodlands appeared to put the game away with a 21-12 third-quarter run to take a 50-38 lead into the fourth quarter.

But the Highlanders had to hold off a late rally to continue their current 20-game win streak.

Wes Cole poured in 26 points and Joey Trinkle added 11 more.
