THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Infertility affects about 7.3 million people in the United States, a figure that represents 12 percent of women of childbearing age, according to the 2002 National Survey of Family Growth. In "Expecting a Miracle," local Woodlands author Kara Powell shares a rare and intimate glimpse into the reality of infertility and how it ultimately moved her and her family on a poignant journey of hope and faith.

Powell always wanted to have her own children and start a family, so when her doctor told her that it was difficult for her to conceive because of her endometriosis, she was devastated. Despite this obstacle, Powell was determined and for the next five years she and her husband found themselves on an odyssey that tested their patience, faith and their marriage. Powell shares this remarkable journey in her book along with the true stories of fifteen other families who struggled and triumphed over infertility.

"Expecting a Miracle" also includes sobering facts about infertility and the treatment options available in the United States. This book is not only meant to be informative, it was written to inspire and give hope to the millions of women and their families who are going through a similar struggle.

“My hope is that even if your journey takes six months or six years, please don't give up hope," Powell said. "A family can be made in many different ways. And often it will look different than we thought, usually 100 times better! So be open to new ideas and new timing.”

Heartwarming and ultimately uplifting, Expecting a Miracle is a triumphant testimony that explores and celebrates motherhood, family, the miracle of life and the power of faith. For more information see the website.
