THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- The South Montgomery County YMCA is proud to spotlight, Mr. Russell Dorr, who recently celebrated his 25th Anniversary as a YMCA Member. Russ is a resident of The Woodlands.

Russell celebrates 25 years as a Y Member

The YMCA’s goal for Healthy Living is to improve the nation’s health and well-being. In communities across the nation, the Y is a leading voice on health and well-being. The Y brings families closer together while encouraging good health and fostering connections through fitness, sports and fun activities. As a result, millions of youth, adults and families are receiving the support, guidance and resources needed to achieve greater health and well-being for their spirit, mind and body.

“The National Institute on Aging finds that staying physically active and exercising regularly can help prevent or delay some diseases and disabilities as people grow older,” said Roxanne Davis, YMCA Community Liaison. “We encourage our active older adults to stay active. Physical activity improves strength, energy and flexibility. Growing older shouldn’t have to mean losing your strength or ability to do everyday tasks and the other things you enjoy.”

Mr. Dorr shares his Y experience and what the Y means to him. “Except for the not-unexpected aches and pains associated with aging, I continue to enjoy good health and, to a large degree, attribute this to 25 continuous years of three-day-a-week workouts at the Y. I realize that good health is, to a loarge degree, a matter of diet and exercise. In my case, I have a harder time dealing with the diet part than with the exercise regime, but I continue to try to work on that part too. As a thirty-year resident of The Woodlands, I have used even those subtle opportunities, as they present themselves, to encourage others to consider joining the Y and enjoy its benefits. It’s obvious that the wide array of activities offered appeal to both young and old. The Y is a great place to meet and cultivate new friends, and to welcome those friends I have known as a result of membership in other organizations and activities.”

At the YMCA, not only do we focus on senior health fitness, we make sure our older adult members know they are an important part of our YMCA family. Meet new friends every time you visit the YMCA.
