THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Military personnel form a strong bond when thrust into perilous situations together. This bond transcends both time and branches of the service. Recognizing this among their own residents, The Forum at The Woodlands opens up their restaurant to area veterans the last Wednesday of every month for breakfast, to provide a venue for veterans to share camaraderie and their ‘tour of duty’ stories.

The complimentary breakfast is The Forum’s way of honoring our nation's veterans and thanking them for serving. The breakfast has become a tradition for the last couple of years, and is for all veterans in the community from all military campaigns and branches of service.

Present again, at the July breakfast Wednesday, July 31, was Molly Goodman, 92, a resident of The Forum for over a decade.

“I’m from Detroit. I was a member of the first Women’s Army of Detroit,” said Goodman. “We were a women’s civilian auxiliary that went to the bases to assist the war effort.”

During World War II, women not only assisted on the bases, but also in the factories, freeing up all able-bodied men to fight the war. The men came from all walks of life, careers, and ethnic origins. It was a time in our nation’s history when our country was truly unified. Unfortunately, the number of WWII veterans is dwindling. With the loss of each one, is the loss of a piece of history. It’s important for veterans to share their stories with the next generation of military personnel, in order to perpetuate the proud legacy of the military branches of service and preserve their history.

We were proud to contribute any way we could,” said Goodman. “I don’t know what we would have done if we had come under attack in Detroit. I guess we would have figured it out.”

The Forum at The Woodlands is located at 5055 West Panther Creek . Friendly personnel on site, will direct guests to the formal dining room on the west side of their beautiful grounds. Call The Forum for more information about the Veterans Breakfast.
