THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- The Humane Society of the United States estimates that animal shelters in the U.S. care for about 6-8 million cats and dogs each year. Of those cats and dogs, about half are euthanized. Although this is significant progress compared to 40 years ago when animal shelters euthanized 12-20 million cats and dogs a year, there is still much progress to be made.

According to the Humane Society, to help reduce the number of homeless animals and therefore the number of animals put down, it is important "to promote responsible pet ownership and to reduce pet overpopulation through public education, legislation, and support for sterilization programs.”(Humane Society)

This summer, The Woodlands Heating & Air Conditioning has chosen Operation Pets Alive, a non-profit, all-volunteer organization striving to elevate Montgomery County to a No-Kill community as their annual charity fundraiser recipient. They hope to raise $10,000 for the local, non-profit by the end of the summer. Operations Manager, Phil, says, “We love animals. We especially want to help the animals in the community and we think that many people in the community share our values.”

Dogs Days of Summer 2013 Fundraiser for Operation Pets Alive was kicked off by The Woodlands Heating & Air Conditionings own donation of $5,000. If you are an animal lover yourself, you can make your own donation on their website at the donation link below. For every $10 that you donate, your name gets entered in a raffle for some pretty big prizes. Although most of the prizes are still to be determined, one is a Weber Grill. Raffle winners will be announced on The Woodlands Heating & Air Conditioning Facebook page. All donations are tax deductible.

The final party will be hosted August 31 at Lonestar Ace Hardware, 2111 Rayford Rd. There will be dozens of cats, dogs, kittens and puppies ready to be saved from the shelter and loved by a new family. Come out to support the cause and find yourself falling in love with the newest addition to the family.
