THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Since the turn of the century, the Academy for Lifelong Learning (ALL) at Lone Star College-Montgomery has been offering intriguing lectures, workshops, and seminars for the 50-plus retired or semi-retired community.

Come experience what this membership organization offers at the ALL Open House on Saturday, August 24, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., in the Commons Building (Building A). The public is invited, and entertainment and refreshments will be provided. The open house is a great opportunity to meet class instructors, socialize with other ALL members, and register for any lecture or class. Plus, the organization will name the “Instructor/Lecturer of the Year” and announce the incoming ALL Advisory Committee during the event.

“If retirees or recent transplants to the area are looking for something to do that provides intellectual growth, the ALL program is the perfect match,” said Donna Smith Burns, continuing education coordinator at LSC-Montgomery. “It provides a chance to meet interesting people and learn about a variety of topics—all in an informal environment with no tests or textbooks.”

Several special ALL events are planned this fall, including a lecture in October about guns and gunslingers by Texas State historian Bill O’Neal; and a special Celtic Christmas presentation held in December in conjunction with LSC-Montgomery’s Lyceum Speaker Series.

“With those, plus more than 125 other lectures, workshops and seminars this semester, ALL is the best ticket in town,” said Smith Burns.

Membership for the ALL program is only $35 a year. Some classes have a small, additional fee, yet more than 70 percent of the classes are free to members. Lectures are taught by professors, subject matter experts, hobbyists, and retired professionals, and the classes are relaxed, informational and cover a variety of topics such as art, computer technology, personal growth, languages, history, travel, and more.

Most ALL classes are offered at LSC-Montgomery or Lone Star College-University Center At Montgomery, but some take place off-site at Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Hospital, Spring Creek Greenway, Jones State Forest, and Lone Star College-Conroe Center.

Each of the six colleges in the Lone Star College System offer continuing education for their older, active adult through the ALL organization. Course offerings and programs vary with each campus.
