MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas -- Montgomery County United Way partners with hundreds of volunteers each year but one group in general has really built a reputation for themselves by specializing in building wheel chairs ramps for those in need.

Ten honorary Geezer’s (self-named volunteers) came together to build their biggest wheel chair ramp to date; a whopping 48 feet long! The homeowner, who is currently battling cancer, relies on a wheelchair but did not have the resources to have a wheel chair ramp put in place. Even worse, his current porch was falling apart day by day. Because the condition of the original porch was so dangerous, Montgomery County Hospital District connected the homeowner with MCUW’s Days of Caring Manager, Summer Darnell.

After hearing about the homeowner’s story, Summer immediately contacted the Geezer Squad to build a safe porch and wheelchair ramp . The Geezer’s collectively gave a total of 90 volunteer hours to complete this massive project leaving the homeowner with a safe route to enter his home and allow for greater independence.
