THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Woodlands Oriental Rug Gallery has announced Don Mudd will be retiring as President of the company. After much deliberation, Don, who is approaching 80 years of age, said it was time for him to slow down from his rigorous six-day week at the store and enjoy life. Who, you may ask, works until they are 80?

Don Mudd has, both inside and outside of the store. The only president the Gallery has had since it opened in 2001, Don and his wife and business partner, Karen, have built their successful business on superior quality, exemplary customer service, and their extensive knowledge of hand-woven oriental rugs and tapestries, which they purchase directly from artisans in India, Pakistan, Persia, Turkey, Afghanistan and The Caucuses.

When not ‘minding the store,’ Don has lent his time and talents to numerous non-profit organizations and fundraising events.

“Don enjoys giving back to the community,” Karen Mudd said. “He’s lent his expertise as an auctioneer to numerous charity fundraiser auctions, and to almost every school and church in the area.”

The Marine Corps Gala that benefits the Toys for Tots Drive is of special interest to the Mudds. They’ve been actively involved with the program for the past five years. Animal interest organizations and shelters is another ‘pet’ project. They took an active part in establishing The Woodlands Dog Park Club, and are long-standing members in the Lone Star Animal Welfare League.

Retirement will enable Don to spend more time walking his dogs and pursuing his other passion of antique collecting. Karen Mudd will be stepping into the position as President, but said she has no immediate plans to make any changes.

“We’re planning some exciting changes in the summer,” said Karen Mudd, “but we’re not ready to make an announcement until then.”

In honor of Don’s retirement, Woodlands Oriental Rug Gallery is having a retirement sale in his honor. Discounts are being offered on every rug which began February 1. Those who wish to extend their best regards to Don are invited to drop by the Gallery and sign his retirement poster card. Located at 30340 FM 2978 Road, Suite #800, one block south of Woodlands Parkway in the Terramont Shopping Center; the store hours are 10 a.m.- 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

Don has always enjoyed being a part of The Woodlands; now he’ll finally have the opportunity to enjoy it.
