UIL Wrestling State Champs recognized

THE WOODLANDS, Texas--Conroe ISD Board of Trustees gave special recognition to four students named UIL Wrestling State Champions at the March Board meeting. Out of twenty-four State wrestling titles, four are from Conroe ISD.

Conroe High female wrestlers Nicola Newton and Rebecka Winton, Oak Ridge High female wrestler Rachel Bates, and The Woodlands High School male wrestler Jacob Weingrad were named UIL Wrestling State Champions Saturday, February 15, at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland, TX.

Senior Nicola Newton not only won the 185lb division state title, but she also finished her season with a flawless 40-0 record. Her teammate, Rebecka Winton, completed her senior year with an impressive overall record of 37-1 and the 215lb title. Oak Ridge High School Rachel Bates (senior) finished her perfect season (39-0) by taking home the 148lb state title.

In the boys’ division, TWHS senior Jacob Weingrad (37-4) came from behind and won the 195lb State title.

Dr. Curtis Null, Secondary Assistant Superintendent, introduced the coaches to the Board. Mr. Scott Kidd, Board 2nd Vice President, presented each student with a plaque.
