Township team earns awards in TAAF State Lifeguard Championship

THE WOODLANDS, Texas –The Woodlands Township proudly sponsored three teams who competed at the TAAF/TPPC Texas State Lifeguard Championship in College Station, Texas on August 4, 2014, at the Adamson Lagoon facility.

Team Undertow consisted of Jackson Greenwade, Matt Hawthorne, Catie Laughlin and Paige Oliver, and took home third place in the overall competition, including a convincing first place win in the First Aid scenario and a solid second place finish in the Baby Pool Rescue scenario. Out of 400 possible points, Team Undertow missed out on first place by less than one point.

Team Nature’s Fury consisted of Ariana Conway, Luke Crumley, Andrew Proctor and Mike Ryan, and they placed fifth in the overall competition. Team Nature’s Revenge included Dustin Bassett, Alex Gonzalez, Elyssa Johnson and Emilie Lostracco, and they finished seventh overall. The Township teams were expertly coached by Lifeguard Program Coordinator Caroline Pierce.

The championship was attended by 12 teams from eight of the top aquatics programs in the state. The city of Georgetown won both first and second place at the championship.

In order to qualify and compete at this event, teams must finish in the top three at one of five TAAF/TPPC-sanctioned competitions in 2014. The Woodlands Township teams qualified by placing fist, second and third at the 2014 Texan Guard Shootout hosted by West University Place on July 21, 2014.

The Woodlands Township has previously won the state championship at this event in 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012.
