THE WOODLANDS, Texas - Saturday proved why the fourth-annual Fidelity Investments Woodlands Marathon and CHI St. Luke’s Health Half-Marathon continue to grow in size and popularity, as one of the premier marathon events in the state of Texas.

More than 6,500 runners participated this year’s events with the full marathon, half-marathon, 5K, and 2K Family Fun Run.

Phillip Lagat of Kenya, and a current resident of Bossier City, Louisiana, was crowned the men’s champion of the 2015 full marathon with a time of 2:19:21, with a pace of 5:19 per mile. Taking home the women’s championship in the full marathon was Frehiwot Goshumetire of Ethiopia with a time of 2:43:52. The paces of the runners overall were faster as the cooler weather may have played a role as an advantage for the runners, as the races began in 37-degree weather.

Although the times among the elite runners were quicker, all four course records remained in place.

Julius Lagat of Hebron won the men’s half-marathon with a time of 1:06:14, while the Samantha Draney of Magnolia won the women’s half-marathon, finishing in 1:17:01.
