Willis Hosts Conroe In An Interesting District Matchup

WILLIS – Last week, the Willis Wildkats regained their winning form by defeating New Caney on the road. While the game turned into a blowout by the end, it started slowly with both teams having scoring chances. Conroe, on the other hand, suffered a tough loss at home to Grand Oaks, putting their playoff hopes in jeopardy. Both teams will come into this game eager to prove something, which could make for an interesting matchup.
Conroe Tigers: Slow Burn
The game plan for Conroe appears to be consistent: playing a slow, draining offense highlighted by a solid run game. This approach keeps their games close most of the time but can limit them if they fall behind opponents. QB Cameron Nunley leads his team with 1124 passing yards and 8 touchdowns, though he has also thrown 5 interceptions. RB Alex Spence Myers has been the standout on offense, rushing for 658 yards and 7 touchdowns this season. He is the key to Conroe's heavy reliance on the run and will likely be looked to make plays in this game. WRs Elijah Harris and Braylen Mills have each surpassed 300 receiving yards, showing they aren’t completely unable to throw when needed. The defense has performed well, holding opponents under 35 points in every game. Most notably, they limited College Park's offense to only 35 points, their lowest point total of the season. Their game plan is straightforward but effective, as we’ve seen when Klein Collins beat Willis earlier this season.
The Willis Wildkats: Getting Back To Winning
It has been a tough season for the Willis Wildkats, but at least they are winning the games they need to stay in the playoff hunt. They handled New Caney last week, and the offense after halftime looked just like it always does. However, that first half was absolutely brutal for Willis, as QB Lincoln Frazier threw 2 picks and the offense looked completely out of sync. It was cleaned up later, but it was definitely not a clean performance. Jermaine Bishop Jr. still looked as good as ever last game and should once again be a major factor. He currently has 1,157 all-purpose yards with 16 touchdowns and will try to add to that this game. TE/DE Jaivion Martin has also been breaking out in recent games, scoring a touchdown in each of the last three contests. The main question for this game will be the defense, as while they didn’t give up many points to New Caney, the Eagle offense was able to get some push on them, and that offense isn’t as solid as Conroe’s can be. If Willis can stop the run effectively and get Conroe off the field for their offense, this should be a solid win for Willis.
Final Thoughts:
This should pose a slightly bigger challenge for Willis than New Caney did last week, but it won’t be a game like their matches against The Woodlands and College Park. Conroe should be able to compete against a Willis defense that has some weaknesses, and if they capitalize on them, the game could be closer than expected. Overall, however, Willis’s playmakers should seal the deal against any chances Conroe might have, and Willis will look to keep their winning streak alive.
