Conroe ISD kicks off annual Read for a Better Life initiative

THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Dr. Don Stockton, Superintendent of the Conroe Independent School District, began the 11th year of the District-wide initiative, Read for a Better Life, by reading to students from Mrs. Johnson’s second grade class from Rice Elementary at the September 19 Board of Trustees Meeting.

“This is an exciting night for us because it kicks-off our Read for a Better Life initiative,” stated Dr. Stockton. “This is our 11th year that we’ve had the initiative in the District, and, very simply, we believe reading makes a difference in a child’s life.”

During the Board meeting, Dr. Curtis Null, Deputy Superintendent of Schools, read a Read for a Better Life resolution, which proclaimed that Conroe ISD will support Read for a Better Life and authorizes the District to enlist the support of the parents and community of Conroe ISD to read aloud to every student 30 minutes of every day. The Board agreed unanimously to the resolution.

Read for a Better Life is a simple mission that requires few resources and results in many benefits to students. The District is committed to this initiative and looks forward to the continued involvement of all members of the Conroe ISD community in reading aloud to students. Campuses across CISD celebrated the kick-off by inviting parents and community members to participate in a variety of reading activities.
