THE WOODLANDS, Texas-- The regular season has flown by and we are set for the War of the Woods rivalry game between The Woodlands and College Park. The Woodlands has won nine straight meetings with their cross-town rival bringing the all-time record to 10-1-0.

Hungry to avenge last year’s 63-10 loss, College Park will need to execute on every side of the ball. The Woodlands comes into this week currently ranked #4 in the state, while the Cavaliers are still searching for their first district win of the season.

The relationship between the two schools goes far beyond just football. Many of the athletes grow up with their rivals. Playing in leagues such as SCFL and Orwall gives them a sense of familiarity with the opponent. Win or lose the community is always supportive of one another as the War of the Woods enters its second decade of play.

This year, the Highlanders have picked up right where they left off from last year’s state final appearance. Quarterback Quinton Johnson has stepped in place of opening day starter Quinn Binney to lead the Woodlands to six straight victories. Throwing to Texas Tech commit Kesean Carter definitely makes his job a little easier and fun but the Highlanders are filled with talent on both sides of the ball. Jackson Shearer will lead a Highlander defense that just allowed their most points scored on this season against Montgomery into this week, eager to get back to their defensive dominance.

With new coach Lonnie Madison, the Cavaliers are still looking to earn him his first win in District 12-6A. The young Cavaliers led by junior Jake Hunnicutt will need all the tools to pull off the upset on Friday night. To help out the Cavs, they have two extremely productive running backs in Dane Vann and Travis Washburn and a quick hard-hitting defense led by Austin Fox.

Friday night is what all the young athletes in the community look forward to. A chance to beat the cross-town rival you grew up disliking. The Woodlands Highlanders and College Park Cavaliers will kick off the War of the Woods Friday Night at Woodforest Bank Stadium at 7:30 p.m. Our broadcast will be brought to you by Memorial Hermann with replays presented by Hal Watson Air Conditioning.
