Anonymous Tip Leads to Felony-Arrest in Magnolia, Texas

THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- On January 30, 2019 the Montgomery County Auto Theft Task Force received an anonymous tip from Crime Stoppers in reference to a vehicle with switched VIN in the 30,000 block of Amarillo St. Magnolia, in the Decker Hills Subdivision. Detectives went to the location and made contact with the homeowner and obtained permission to look at the vehicle.

The vehicle was identified as a 1991 Ford Mustang 5.0; however, its VIN plate had been replaced with one from a 1992 Mustang. The 1991 Mustang had previously been totaled in an accident and could never be registered. Upon interviewing the owner, be confessed to switching the VIN to the vehicle so he could sell it for $30,000. The owner. Kevin Dale Foster WM DOB 04/04/59. was arrested and charged with Placement of a Serial Number with Intent to Change the Identity, a Felony 3 crime.

The Montgomery County Auto Theft Task Force is a cooperative multi-agency task force which consists of law enforcement agencies from Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, Walker County Sheriff's Office and the Grimes County Sheriff's Office, with an eight county coverage area. Participating agencies recognized that a special collaborative effort was necessary to better combat vehicle crimes throughout the coverage area.
