District 15-6A Playoff Baseball Primer

THE WOODLANDS, TX -- When the final outs of the 2019 District 15-6A season were recorded last Friday, there were still issues to be resolved. The district had five teams tied for the final three playoff spots. Second place was a two-way tie between Oak Ridge and Klein Collins, who both finished with a district record of 13-3. Conroe, Klein, and Klein Oak all finished at 7-9, creating a three-way tie for the fourth and final spot in the playoffs. To sort out the standings, a series of play-in games took place on Saturday to determine the final top four.

Klein Collins and Oak Ridge met at the home of the War Eagles to play for the second place spot with the loser dropping to third. The Tigers jumped out to a seven-run lead through the top of the third inning. The War Eagles responded by scoring four unanswered runs before running out of gas and dropping the game to Klein Collins 8-4.

Winner: The Woodlands
Runner-up: Klein Collins
Third: Oak Ridge
Fourth: ?

With the top three spots accounted for, Conroe and Klein Oak would play for the right to meet Klein in a play-in game for the final spot. Klein Oak would defeat the Tigers 6-4 to set up a rivalry game with each team’s playoff hopes on the line.

Klein would make quick work of Klein Oak. The Bearkats beat the Panthers 12-4 for their second-straight win over their crosstown foes and locked up the final District 15-6A playoff spot.
