THE WOODLANDS, TX -- With district football games in full swing, it’s time for the best thing sports has to offer, rivalry games. This Friday, September 20, Woodforest Stadium will host the 14th meeting between crosstown rivals, The Woodlands Highlanders and the College Park Cavaliers.

Like last year’s thrilling game that saw The Highlanders score a game-winning touchdown with seconds remaining, Friday’s meeting should be another hard-fought, entertaining contest. Both teams will be on a mission to pick up a win that will greatly impact their season. For The Woodlands, picking up back-to-back wins over district rivals and winning their third game in a row would be a huge momentum boost after starting the season with a loss. College Park started their district tour with a tough loss to Conroe, so for a team with goals to make the playoffs after just missing out in 2018, avoiding an 0-2 start in District 15-6A is crucial.

In the loss, College Park did perform well in the second half, while The Woodlands sputtered late in their win over Oak Ridge. Both teams will look to start strong and take advantage of all the extra adrenaline that comes with rivalry games. The Cavaliers and the Highlanders will look to do that through establishing the run. Each team is very dangerous on the ground and prefers to play that way, so Friday’s game will be a race to establish dominance running the football and force their opponent to win through the air. Prediction: The Woodlands 30, College Park 21

Friday’s game will be an on-demand game sponsored by RE/MAX and Woodlands Dental. Live audio will also be available. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 pm.
