MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX -- American Heart Association Montgomery County Heart Ball Executive Leadership Team member, 17-year-old M.J. Ruhman made good on his promise to keep kids in his community healthy last Friday.

Through the American Heart Association’s Healthy for Good initiative, Ruhman used funds he raised at the Montgomery County Heart Ball and throughout the year, to purchase a Recess in Schools Kit for P.E classes at Deretchin Elementary School in Conroe ISD.

The kit included basketballs, jump ropes, and frisbees. Additional items also donated to his former elementary school included baseball bats, soccer balls, and volleyballs.

Ruhman said, “I went to Deretchin from kindergarten through 6th grade, and now I’m a Junior at The Woodlands High School. I decided to give the balls to the kids at Deretchin Elementary School because I know there is a shortage of equipment here because I used to go outside and play at this very school.”

The American Heart Association’s Healthy for Good initiative is a revolutionary healthy living movement that inspires a lasting change in health and life, one small step at a time. The approach is simple: Eat smart. Add color. Move more. Be well.
