THE WOODLANDS, TX -- Memorial Day pays tribute to all military service men and women who lost their lives while serving the United States. The Township gives thanks to all who have served and encourages everyone to celebrate safely. The traditional Memorial Day in The Woodlands event will not be held due to social distancing, limited number of gatherings and more due to COVID-19. Please remember that fireworks of any kind, including sparklers, are not permitted in The Woodlands.

The Woodlands Township has been closely following the governor’s orders for re-opening The Woodlands and making decisions in weekly meetings. Watch a video as Township Chairman Gordy Bunch talks about the process during the COVID-19 crisis.

Board of Directors Met Thursday via Videoconference
The Woodlands Township Board of Directors held a Special Budget Meeting via videoconference on Thursday, May 21, 2020. In the meeting, the Board received a report from the Budget Task Force regarding recommended changes to the 2020 Budget due to the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Board also held a regular meeting at 6 p.m. to discuss the re-opening of certain Township parks and recreation facilities, pools and more based upon the guidelines provided by Governor Abbott for the re-opening of Texas. The Board also received recommendations for potential plans for the Township's annual Fourth of July event.

Try A Water Bike at Riva Row Boat House
The Woodlands Township began offering water bikes as a new and exciting rental option at Riva Row Boat House on May 21, 2020. Water bikes are being added to the many rental options already available at Riva Row, including single and tandem (or double) kayaks, stand-up paddleboards and swan pedal boats. “We are happy to announce this new addition of water bikes to the Riva Row Boat House – especially now that we are entering Phase Two of the Governor’s orders of Opening Up Texas,” stated Township Chairman Gordy Bunch. “We look forward to our residents coming out and enjoying the outdoors in The Woodlands.”

These fun additions to The Woodlands Waterway are positioned in the lower level of The Waterway, and riders will be able to explore the area from Riva Row Park all the way out to the edge of Lake Woodlands, passing the Grogan’s Mill Bridge and East Shore, and discovering Mitchell Island on the way. CDC Reaffirms Virus Spreads More Through Person-to-Person and Not Surfaces
According to the CDC, social distancing is still the most important method of avoiding the COVID-19 virus, and residents are urged to understand how the virus is thought to spread:

Between people who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet).
Through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or talks.
These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs.
COVID-19 may be spread by people who are not showing symptoms.
Read more information on the spread of COVID-19 from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
