Owner of The Learning Zoo Teams Up With Woodlands Online To Create Animal-Centered Video Show; showcases local animal organizations and rescue centers

THE WOODLANDS, TX — The Learning Zoo, located off 1488 W, presents an up-close experience with wildlife. From red-footed tortoises native to Venezuela, a python native to Thailand, and a sun conure native to Brazil, the nearly 50 animals housed at The Learning Zoo provide education and appreciation for animals and their natural habitats.

Head Zookeeper, Drew Schulz, the owner and proprietor of The Learning Zoo, provides The Woodlands and surrounding areas with:

• VIP Tours for small groups of up to 6 people, which offer a unique opportunity to meet the animals on their home turf.
• Parties at the zoo or on location, which can be tailored to the age, number, and interests of your audience.
• Zoo School for ages 8-10 and 13-15, as well a Zoo Photography course for ages 16 and up.
• Summer Camps where campers receive personalized instruction in animal husbandry, and spend their mornings caring for the reptiles, mammals, birds, and more.
• Weekend Workshops, which are a one-time opportunity for kids to explore a specific part of the animal kingdom.

Drew is a professional zookeeper with over 15 years of experience. His love for animals is part of who he is and always has been.

“As a kid, I wanted to be a paleontologist,” he said. “I was obsessed with dinosaurs, mammoths, anything that was extinct and big. Then that eventually turned into a love of living reptiles,” he noted, reminiscing on the journey that brought him to where he is now.

“I get the opportunity to kind of share these animals with people, especially kids, and every once in a while I’ll meet a kid who is over the moon about it, and it reminds me of me at that age,” he said.

Drew received his degree in Zoology from Santa Fe College in Gainesville, Florida, where he took classes in herpetology and animal nutrition, to name a few. Alongside his bookwork, he was also a keeper in a 10-acre accredited zoo.

“Every morning we would show up at 8 a.m. and go feed, clean, train, provide enrichment and medical care for at least 250 animals,” he said. 'Everything from tarantulas to tree kangaroos, giant tortoises, alligators, antelope, monkeys and apes.”

Woodlands Online has recently teamed up with Drew to create our new video show, Critter Impossible, which will transport viewers to animal organizations and rescue centers around the area. On our list - Saint Francis Wolf Sanctuary, and The Houston Zoo, plus many more surprises!

The intention is for people to learn about the unique organizations around our community that take care of domesticated and wild animals alike.
