THE WOODLANDS, TX -- More than 500 people attend the Incorporation Informational Meeting held Thursday evening at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel & Convention Center in The Woodlands, Texas.

The meeting was held to help The Woodlands residents understand the facts in the Incorporation Election to be held this fall. Election Day is scheduled for Tuesday, November 2, 2021 and early voting begins on Monday, October 18, 2021.

The meeting provided information to the public regarding incorporation so residents can make an informed decision in the upcoming election. The Township Board did not deliberate or take any action or make any decisions. Participants received an overview of the history of Incorporation and a general overview presentation on the Incorporation study. Consultants, Township Directors and staff members were present at informational stations during the event, including governance, public works, law enforcement, and finance. Residents were able to make comments at these stations and ask questions. Questions submitted in writing during the meeting will be organized and posted with answers on www.thewoodlandsincorporationstudy.com in the near future.

The general session of the meeting was livestreamed on The Woodlands Township website, www.thewoodlandstownship-tx.gov, for those who were unable to attend in person. Video of the meeting is posted on the Township website at www.thewoodlandstownship-tx.gov/meetingvideos, and choose “Specialty”. It is also posted on www.thewoodlandsincorporationstudy.com. Videos of the individual break out sessions will be posted early next week, September 27, 2021.

The meeting focused on the issue of Incorporation, which has been placed on the ballot for the election on November 2, 2021. Since 2018, The Woodlands Township has held over 50 Planning Sessions/Special Meetings, has more than 60 video hours of meetings live streamed, recorded and posted on the website, and numerous reports and summaries regarding Incorporation in an effort to educate the community on the topic and the effects on The Woodlands. The Incorporation website can be found at www.thewoodlandsincorporationstudy.com.

Two propositions will appear on the November 2, 2021 ballot. The two propositions presented meet requirements in the Township’s enabling legislation. Passage of Proposition A allows the community to incorporate into the City of The Woodlands and sets the maximum initial tax rate. Passage of Proposition B ensures the clear transfer of obligations and authorities to the new city if Proposition A passes. If Proposition A fails, then Proposition B has no effect. Only registered voters of The Woodlands Township can vote 'for' or 'against' the propositions shown below:

THE WOODLANDS TOWNSHIP – PROPOSITION A
Authorizing the Type-A city incorporation of The Woodlands Township District and the adoption of an initial property tax rate of not more than $0.2231 per one hundred dollars ($100) valuation of taxable property.

THE WOODLANDS TOWNSHIP – PROPOSITION B
Upon incorporation of The Woodlands Township District into a Type-A General Law City to be called the City of The Woodlands, the transfer of the rights, powers, privileges, duties, purposes, functions, responsibilities, the authority to issue bonds, and the authority to impose taxes from The Woodlands Township District to the City of The Woodlands.

Early voting begins Monday, October 18, 2021. The last day to register to vote is October 4, 2021. For more information on The Woodlands Township election, visit www.thewoodlandstownship-tx.gov/NovemberElection.
