CONROE, TX -- Seasons Assisted Living & Memory Care has won the prestigious 2022 Texas Organization of Residential Care Homes (TORCH) “Home of the Year” award for its community in Conroe, Texas.

Founded, owned, and operated by Shawn and Marisa Medlin since 2017, Seasons Assisted Living & Memory Care also has a location in Navasota and a new community currently under construction in Magnolia.

The Conroe care home is located at 1 Briarwood Drive off Wilson Road, approximately one mile east of Interstate 45. The two-story, 5,400-square-foot home can accommodate up to 14 residents and is a state-licensed facility for both Assisted Living and Alzheimer’s Care.

The TORCH criteria for the “Home of the Year” award included:

• State Survey results – a review of the home’s last two state surveys.

• Employee retention – a review of the home’s employees and see how long each has worked there.

• Google reviews – review of the home’s Google reviews and ratings.

• In-service training – a look at the home’s training records from the last six months, based upon diversity in topics and participation rates.

• Menu – review of the monthly menus of the home, based upon how appetizing the menu is.

• Activity calendar – review of the monthly activity calendars from the home.

• Facility clean and in good repair – the home’s cleanliness and level of repair/disrepair.

• Aesthetically pleasing – furniture, décor, paint colors, curb appeal, etc.

• Employee interviews – a chat with random employees in the home, asking, “Would you want your mom to live here?”

• Resident Interviews – a random chat with residents in the home, asking about their daily life, how they like living there, etc.

TORCH received the highest number of nominees in 2022, and Seasons Assisted Living rose to the top due to their consistent faithfulness in providing the highest quality of care for their residents.

'Seasons Assisted Living continues to provide quality care at the highest caliber,” said John Darby, President of TORCH. “Our committee was highly impressed with the beauty of their home, as well as their commitment to expertly combine dignity and safety in a superior assisted living environment. We thank Seasons for consistently shining in their commitment to providing excellent care!'

Seasons Co-founder and CEO Shawn Medlin said, “We are extremely honored to have won the Home of the Year award by TORCH for our Conroe home. We acquired this home in early 2017 and have made significant improvements to it, which has resulted in an exceptional residential care home setting. We strive to make each of our locations into a home that provides exemplary assisted living and dementia care services to our residents without the clinical feel that one would typically find in a larger, big-box type of facility.”

Co-founder Marisa Medlin added, “Shawn and I are proud to receive this award, and it is even more meaningful in light of the challenges that COVID has presented. We are also incredibly proud of our care team staff who provide the best in senior care and truly make Seasons the special place that it is. This award would not have been possible without them.”

Candace Estes, Executive Director at Seasons, noted, “We are honored to have received this award because we take great pride in the level of care we provide to each of our residents. We focus on person-centered care which caters to each resident’s individual needs physically, mentally, and socially. We meet families in some of the most challenging times in life and it is an honor to guide them through these difficult times. It’s not an easy decision for families to make but once they walk in the door, meet our staff, and see the type of love and care we provide it gives them peace of mind knowing they made the right choice.”

The colonial-style home offers a unique, cozy, home-like alternative to larger, more traditional assisted living communities or skilled nursing homes for families needing care for an aging parent or loved one. Staffed 24/7 by highly trained professional caregivers, the home boasts a high staff-to-resident ratio for the industry. Private and companion rooms are offered for residents whose needs range from minimum to maximum care with assistance with activities of daily living, such as bathing, dressing, transferring, and medication reminders.

Transitional care for seniors who need extra help after a lengthy stay in the hospital or a rehabilitation center, as well as temporary respite care, is also offered as space is available.

Seasons residents enjoy home-cooked meals in the kitchen, and they also enjoy sitting outside on one home’s multiple porches. They can also participate in activities, such as music therapy, and have access to volunteer services, on-site visiting physician services, home health, and hospice services. Other services, such as hair and nail care, are also provided for the residents.
