The Strong Firm hosted a VIP opening night for The Woodlands Ice Rink

Families gathered to help officially open The Woodlands Ice Rink. Guests were welcome to skate, watch a Disney-themed ice show, drink hot chocolate, and eat various delicious foods for the grand opening. This much-anticipated event not only helped kickstart the holiday season, but also raised a substantial amount of money for a wonderful local charity.

When asked about the event, Brett Strong, founder and managing shareholder of The Strong Firm P.C., said, “It's the 17th year the Strong Firm has opened the ice rink with a VIP party. And for the last three years, we have made it a benefit for Yes To Youth, Montgomery County Youth Services, helping kids who are in crisis situations. It's an honor, honestly to open up the holiday season with this event. We invite the whole community to come and all proceeds associated with the ticket sales go straight to Yes To Youth. We raise around $15,000 each year.”

The fundraiser included ticket sales and a puck fundraising challenge. Guests were encouraged to purchase a puck for $100 and were given the chance to hit their puck into a Christmas Gift themed goal. For every puck that made it into the goal, The Strong Firm donated $1,000 to Yes To Youth. Partnering organizations like the Howard Hughes Corporation and Woodforest National Bank were also given the opportunity to hit pucks into the goal.

Market Street Held Its Annual Tree Lighting Event

One of the largest holiday events for the evening was the official Christmas tree lighting ceremony at Market Street. With a live band playing throughout the night, local community booths offering Christmas items for the kids, various food available to feast on, and of course a 70-foot-tall Christmas tree with more than 25,000 lights adorning it, the community was introduced to a Christmas wonderland like no other. Every year, the community submits names of deserving individuals to help officially light the Market Street Christmas tree. This year’s Official Lighting Luminary was four-year-old Alexis Rodriguez and her family. Alexis was diagnosed at the age of two with 4H Leukodystrophy, a rare genetic disorder that affects the nervous system. With the help of Nick Wolda, Director of Community Relations/CVB President, and Jenny Taylor, general manager at Market Street The Woodlands, Alexis and her family officially turned on the Christmas tree lights as the crowd of hundreds counted down from 10. It was an amazing light show with snow flurries being blown into the crowd. Families were dressed in Christmas outfits, a couple of Grinches were strolling through the park and even the mounted horse patrol was adorned in Christmas decorations. It was a very festive night to remember and a great way to usher in Christmas 2022 in The Woodlands.
