Looks like the storms of last week have wandered away for the nonce, bringing lower temperatures with their absence. While the “natural” high temps probably won’t hit triple digits until next summer, the humidity will make our 90-ish degree weather feel much more sweltering. But with partly cloudy skies and light breezes, the time is perfect to hit some events as we recover from Labor Day. Here’s a sampling!

Monday, September 7
Not sure where to begin with your digital camera? Precision Camera’s ‘Basic Digital Photography’ class will cover what you need to get started. The focus will be on digital cameras covering basic camera operation, digital photo concepts like using flash and composition, recommended accessories to enhance your picture taking, and how to get your images in the computer. Especially beneficial for people who received their camera as a gift or did not purchase it from Precision Camera.

Tuesday, September 8
Boogie Bash at The Woodlands Children’s Museum today at 11:00 a.m. presents “Scarf and Ribbon Dancing.” Staff and children will be exploring rhythm and movement by dancing and moving creatively with colorful scarves and ribbons to a variety of musical styles. Included in the price of admission, which is $10 for adults and children 1 year and older.

Today Cassidy Joined for Hope presents the 2nd annual “Breaking the Silence” event. This powerful community evening brings together local voices to share lived experiences, unique perspectives, and messages of hope and resilience surrounding mental health and suicide prevention. Throughout the evening, you’ll hear from a parent, a coach, a student, a judge, a first responder, a youth pastor, a counselor, and other local community members. Each of these attendees shares how mental health and suicide have touched their lives, their work, and the people they serve.

“Instruments Roamed the Earth,” a free show presented by the Houston Symphony, takes place at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion tonight. Nothing captures the imagination like dinosaurs. The near-mythical creatures that walked the earth long, long ago inspired the first drawings on cave walls, legendary dragon stories, some of the greatest movie music ever – and now a show even bigger than the Patagotitan mayorum Titanosaur. This show is for kiddos who love T-Rexes and Triceratops, for grown-ups who love to get a little Jurassic, and for classical music lovers who are already thinking about their favorite compositions about mythical creatures. This special event will also feature Hats off to Reading, celebrating the joy of books, curiosity, and imagination.

Preschool Parents Day Out hits Woodlands Sportsplex today from 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. for only $25 per student– with a $5 sibling discount – for kids aged 3 - 5 years. A guardian must be present throughout if the child is not potty trained, and each young one will need to bring a ready-to-eat lunch.

The ceremony takes place outside the Central Fire Station, in front of the building, providing a meaningful setting for reflection and remembrance.
