CONROE, TX -- Lillie is a 71-year-old Conroe resident and has been a proud homeowner for 35 years. As a homeowner Lillie raised her three children in her home, followed by her beloved grandchildren. Outside of the occasional visit from her family, Lillie lives alone. At 71 years old, she still works a part-time job to make ends meet.

Lillie heard about Habitat Montgomery County (Habitat MCTX) through word of mouth and decided to apply for the Home Repair Program. Her bathroom needed repair because her tub was slowly sinking through her flooring due to a water leak. The Home Repair Program assessment confirmed that the repairs Lillie needed were critical to maintaining her safety.

Habitat MCTX staff worked with trusted local companies to replace her bathtub and fix the damages. While the interior work was being done, design ideas were created to build handrails for Lillie’s front steps. Her steps challenged her most days and also posed a safety concern. A team of committed volunteers then built a set of handrails.

This home repair has been impactful for Lillie. Without the help from Habitat's Home Repair Program, Lillie wouldn't have been able to get her home repaired. When asked about what this home repair has meant for her, she replied, 'This repair means everything. I am very blessed because I couldn't have done this by myself.'

Through the support of local funders and foundations, Habitat Montgomery County's Home Repair Program helps to restore honor and a sense of safety to families like Lillie.

Lillie says it best, “This repair helps me so much. I go in my bathroom, and it makes me smile. Thanks for everything you’ve done.”
