THE WOODLANDS, TX – Tomball ISD is excited to announce it has been named a State Finalist for two awards in the 2023 Annual H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards. TISD is a State Finalist in the categories of Large District and Outstanding School Board. Tomball ISD is the only school district named a finalist in both categories.

“We are extremely humbled and honored to be recognized by H-E-B as a Finalist in two categories among its Excellence in Education Awards,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Martha Salazar-Zamora.

The H-E-B School District Awards recognize large and small school districts based on the following criteria: commitment to student achievement through innovative programs; parent/community involvement; and professional development opportunities for teachers and administrators.

“This recognition is a true testament to our commitment to educating all students at a high-level, dedicating efforts to innovation, and making sure our families feel supported and cared for while we continue to experience fast-growth. We are focused on creating endless opportunities for students as we know they will ‘lead in creating the future,” said Salazar-Zamora

H-E-B launched the Excellence in Education Awards program in cooperation with the Texas Association of School Administrators in 2002 as a positive way to support public education in Texas. Since the program’s inception in 2002, H-E-B has awarded more than $13 million in funding to outstanding Texas teachers, principals, public school districts, school boards, and early childhood facilities.

“Tomball ISD has continued to excel in all areas because of the continued support of the TISD School Board,” said Salazar-Zamora. “This group of elected officials is unified in their commitment to student success and is focused on championing new innovative ideas for our growing Destination District. We are thankful for their leadership, their love for our community, and their ability to put students first. Because of our School Board, Tomball ISD continues to be recognized as a Top District in Texas.”

The H-E-B Outstanding School Board honor is designed to recognize school boards that have demonstrated real leadership in the community that it serves based on three basic criteria: academic/student progress within the district; identification of community needs and specific actions taken based on those needs; and new and creative methods for community engagement.

To determine overall statewide winners, a panel of judges visits each district and school board, tours campuses and talks with administration, staff, parents, and community members.

The winning large district will receive $100,000; the winning small district $50,000. If selected, one or more school boards will receive up to a total of $25,000. The state winners will be announced at the H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards Ceremony on April 30, 2023 in San Antonio.
