THE WOODLANDS, TX – On February 1, 2020, the 116th Congress celebrated the passage of H.R. 785 with the first officially designated “Blue Star Mother's Day,” to be observed on the same date each year, a date chosen because it was the 78th anniversary of the first official meeting of Blue Star Mothers of America, Inc., a Congressionally chartered nonprofit organization comprised of mothers, stepmothers, grandmothers, foster mothers, and female legal guardians who have children serving in the military, guard or reserves, or children who are veterans. The organization focuses on its mission every single day to never forsake our troops, our veterans or the families of our Fallen Heroes. Blue Star Mothers of America has nearly 6,000 members from over 200 Chapters throughout the nation.

The local chapter of the organization, Spring Creek Area Blue Star Mothers, met today at The Hero Cafe in Conroe to commemorate the day, as well as the first anniversary of the tragic death of a local serviceman, Joey Lenz, son of Conroe businesswoman Margie Taylor.

“On Behalf of Spring Creek Area Blue Star Mothers, thank you to all the women that came before us and to all the chapters, members, and supporters for all our hard work throughout the years,” said chapter vice president Cara Johnson.

Taylor has been a vocal proponent for mothers’ rights in regards to the deaths of their active duty military children. Her efforts include multiple trips to the capitols of both the state and nation, and for her son to have a bench dedicated to his honor at the Veterans Memorial Park in Conroe.
