Klein Collins High School Alumna Alex McBride Nominated by Television Academy for 42nd College Television Awards

SPRING, TX -- ?Alex McBride, an alumna of Klein Collins High School in Spring, Texas, has been nominated for the Television Academy Foundation’s 42nd College Television Awards—a national competition.

The Foundation’s annual College Television Awards recognizes and rewards excellence in student-produced programs from colleges across the country. Winners in the competition will be announced by television stars at the red carpet awards ceremony April 1 at the Television Academy in North Hollywood, California.

McBride, who attended Brigham Young University, has been nominated along with three classmates in the Commercial, PSA or Promo category for a spec commercial titled Play Your Way - Dungeons & Dragons. McBride served as a producer on the project, which was selected from over 132 submissions from colleges and universities nationwide by Television Academy members.

The spec commercial features a weary traveler who tells the tale of how he was able to rejoin his party following a treacherous journey through guarded mountains.

“I decided to work on this story because of the fantastical nature of this project,” said McBride. “Dungeons & Dragons has also started to gain more popularity over the past few years, so I felt the spec work was relevant to the changing trends that I was seeing. I also love building new worlds and creating backstories for the projects I work on, and this project allowed me to do just that.

“Being nominated for this award makes me so happy,” continued McBride. “It means that I created something that others enjoyed viewing. That's all I can ask as a creator. If we win this award, it would also evidence how hard work does pay off. The long shoots and stresses that came with putting this together would be recognized by fellow creatives. I could hold my head high and know that even the newbies have something to add to the table.”

2023 College Television Awards nominees will also participate in a variety of professional-development activities from March 29-April 1, including a special screening of all nominated projects attended by members of the Television Academy, an industry-professionals networking breakfast, Hollywood studio visits and additional career-enhancing activities before the red carpet awards show.

Nominees and winners of the 42nd College Television Awards automatically become members of the Television Academy Foundation's alumni family, gaining access to year-round networking opportunities, events and professional development resources. Prominent College Television Awards alumni include CNN national correspondent Natasha Chen; Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan director Patricia Riggen; Maya and the Three executive producer Jorge Gutierrez; and Love, Victor executive producer Jason Ensler.
