Montgomery County Sheriff's Office Manages Large Crowds from Impromptu Car Show in The Woodlands

THE WOODLANDS, TX -- As you may have seen reported, a recent car show in Austin led to “street takeovers,” an assault on law enforcement, and property damage. This weekend a large group attending a car show in Conroe decided to gather afterward in several groups around Montgomery County, including The Woodlands.

On Saturday evening at about 9:00 PM, Deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office began to receive calls at several locations where multiple vehicles were gathered for an unsanctioned, impromptu car show. There were reports of “burnouts” that occurred before deputies arrived, and the cars and trucks would leave and move from one location to another. Deputies responded to each scene and addressed complaints while handling the large moving crowds.

Rapidly resolving these types of complaints is challenging when they occur on private property. Deputies cannot remove individuals without first contacting the property owner or a representative to verify a gathering was not approved and to determine the owner's desires with regard to the gathering.

Deputies were able to de-escalate the large and dynamic gatherings while managing regular calls for service and effectively protecting the community and property.

Every offense committed in our Deputy's presence was appropriately addressed, and no arrests were made. However, we ask any citizen with a video that may lead to the identity of persons who might have been driving recklessly to contact the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office at 936-760-5800.
