Lone Star College Honors College to discuss Global Scholars program at virtual information session

HOUSTON, TX -- The Houston area is the fourth largest city in the United States and one of the fastest-growing areas for international students.

Lone Star College is the educational choice for nearly 3,000 international students. To ensure the college meets the need of this growing population, the LSC Honors College will feature its Global Scholars Program at a virtual information session Tuesday, March 21, at 5 p.m. Students of all majors are encouraged to participate.

“I enjoy learning about different traditions and opportunities through being a Global Scholar,” said Malyse Domingue, who plans to become a college professor, “I am able to learn a new perspective and prepare for a new style of teaching. I want to implement culture into my everyday work so my students learn from a well-rounded perspective.”

Representatives from the Office of Honors and International Education will outline the benefits of being a Global Scholar including scholarships, international travel, global activities and events, customized transfer workshops, competitions and internships. To attend the virtual information session, individuals must register at https://forms.office.com/r/bv5MXZ8qZq. After registering, they will receive a Zoom link to access the meeting.

“The Honors College’s Global Scholars Program offers students globally-diverse experiences that will give them an edge when they transfer to a four-year university or enter their chosen career fields,” said Katharine Caruso, Ph.D., LSC Associate Vice Chancellor Honors and
International Education.

The Global Scholars Program, located at LSC-Houston North, LSC-North Harris and LSC-Tomball, provides intercultural experiences and an international studies curriculum to ensure its students are well-prepared to live, work and compete in an increasingly globalized world.

“Lone Star College is changing the concept of what community colleges can offer based on the caliber of our programs, students and faculty,” said Caruso.

The travel opportunities that have come my way have broadened my perspective and opened doors to new possibilities.”

Casey will be traveling to Ireland this summer through the Global Scholars Program.
