THE WOODLANDS, TX – For the second straight year, Creekside Park Junior High seventh grader Ishika Varipilli, has secured her spot in the 2023 Scripps National Spelling Bee, after winning The 2023 Scripps Regional Spelling Bee, hosted by Houston Community College.

Varipilli once again represented Tomball ISD in this year’s regional event following a win during the District Spelling Bee competition back in November, held at the Tomball Event Center. Varipilli has represented Tomball ISD at the 2023 Scripps Regional Spelling Bee, hosted by Houston Community College (previously Houston Public Media Spelling Bee) four straight years and earns her second straight trip to the National Spelling Bee after being one of the three first place winners.

She captured first place honors with the winning word: “solivagant”. During the Scripps Regional Spelling Bee, Varipilli competed in nine rounds, lasting nearly six hours.

With this win, Varipilli’s Spelling Bee journey will continue with an all-expenses paid trip to the Washington DC area to compete in the coveted, nationally-televised Scripps National Spelling Bee in National Harbor, Maryland, May 28 - June 2.
