THE WOODLANDS, TX -- Precinct 3 Commissioner James Noack requested information on increasing the 65 and older exemption from $35,000 to $50,000 in the next budget earlier this month, and today, the Court unanimously passed the increase.

Previously the county offered a 20 percent homestead exemption, $35,000 for residents 65 and older and $75,000 for disabled residents. Raising the exemption to $50,000 will save taxpayers about $2.7 million.

“Being a good steward of taxpayer money means constantly evaluating where we can take action to allow residents to keep more of their hard-earned money,” said Commissioner Noack. “I appreciate working so closely with our County colleagues like our Tax-Assessor, Tammy McRae to get this done for our taxpayers.”

Commissioner James Noack was first elected in Precinct 3 in 2012. He is up for his fourth full term in November 2024. To learn more: JamesNoack.com
